MINE EYES HAVE SEEN THE GLORY

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered a sermon on the night of April 3, 1968, at the Bishop Charles Mason Temple in Memphis, Tennessee, as a storm raged outside. Titled “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop,” it was his last speech. Some people believe its final passage prophesized his death the next day.

At the end of his speech, he said, “…And I’ve seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people will get to the promised land. And I’m happy tonight. I’m not worried about anything. I’m not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.”

I’ve watched Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech a handful of times over the years. It’s truly inspirational. I hope I did him justice with this painting.

Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory, an original oil painting done on aluminum composite panel, is painted with only two colors - Ivory Black and Titanium White. I thought the image would be more classic and timeless in black and white - fitting for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

All of my original oil paintings are signed and come with a certificate of authenticity.
